LA BANDA MUSICALE DI POMPEIANA

 Lo Statuto della Società Filarmonica di Pompeiana attesta l’istituzione della Banda Musicale nell’anno 1929, ma si presume che tale società esistesse già in precedenza e ciò in base a testimonianze tramandate oralmente. Sul calendario di Pompeiana del 2002 (mese di Giugno) si può vedere uno stralcio di tale documento accanto ad una foto del 1930, che ritrae alcuni componenti con il “capo-banda” di allora, Bernardo Martini (in attività di direttore da quell’anno fino al 1950 circa). Sul calendario 2003 (mese di Agosto) è pubblicata una foto recente che ritrae alcuni componenti della Banda musicale con l’attuale “capo-banda” Fabio Frezza. Prosegue, quindi, la tradizione artistica del gruppo che in origine si chiamava “Società Filarmonica Pompeianese”.Come si può osservare, alcuni musicisti sono molto giovani; infatti il gruppo musicale conta su una scuola di musica gratuita che da anni lo affianca e prepara sempre nuovi elementi. Negli anni fra il 1950 e il 1970 il “capo-banda” di tale periodo, Angelo Martini (1906-1978) compose musica e parole di una canzone dedicata al paese ed intitolata appunto “Pompeiana”; il brano viene ancora eseguito in occasione delle feste locali e cantato dalla Corale Parrocchiale, che è un altro “fiore all’occhiello” per il paese; anch’essa continua la tradizione rinnovandosi e preparando sempre nuovi allievi. Entrambi i gruppi si esibiscono durante le festività principali del paese e in occasione di concerti estivi e invernali (nella chiesa parrocchiale e sulla piazza antistante).Dopo il maestro Angelo Martini e prima di Fabio Frezza, ha diretto la Banda musicale il maestro Giovanni Battista Conio.

LA SCUOLA DI MUSICA “OTTORINO RESPIGHI”     di   SAN REMO

Alcuni componenti della Banda musicale di Pompeiana, come pure tanti altri musicisti della zona, si perfezionano presso la Scuola di Musica “Ottorino Respighi” che ha sede a San Remo, e si preparano a sostenere esami presso i Conservatori di Torino o di Genova.In questo programma delle esibizioni degli allievi, uno dei tanti concerti che tengono sia in Liguria che in Francia, Dario Garello, che ha eseguito brani al sassofono, è anche un componente della Banda Musicale di Pompeiana.

THE PHILHARMONIC COMPANY OF POMPEIANA

The Philharmonic Company of Pompeiana states the institution of the Music Band in 1929, but oral testimonies say that probably it was already in existence before .On the calendar of Pompeiana – year 2002 (June) it’s possible to see an extract of that document near a picture of 1930, which portrays some members of the music band  together with the then bandmaster, Mr Bernardo Martini (who was the director from that year until about 1950).On the calendar 2003 (August) there is a recent picture which portrays some bandsmen  together with the present bandmaster Mr Fabio Frezza. So, this group, which originally was called “Pompeiana Philharmonic Company”, continues with its own tradition.As you can see, some musicians are very young; in fact the music group attends a free school of music, which cooperates with it and has been preparing new  players for years.In the period between 1950 and 1970 the bandmaster of that period, Angelo Martini (1906-1978) composed music and words of a song dedicated to the village and entitled “Pompeiana”; the piece is still performed during the local feasts and sung by the Parish choir that is another button-hole flower for the village; the choir continues the tradition as well, renewing and preparing new pupils.Both groups perform during the main village festivities and on the occasion of summer and winter concerts (in the parish church and on the square in front of the church)After master Angelo Martini and before Fabio Frezza, master Giovanni Battista Conio directed the Music Band.

“OTTORINO RESPIGHI” Music School in San Remo

 Some members of Pompeiana Music Band, as well as many other musicians of this area, make practice at the music school called “Ottorino Respighi” with its seat in San Remo, where they train to take examinations at the Academy of Music in Turin or Genoa.In this programme of the students’ performances, one of the several concerts they give either in Liguria or in France, Dario Garello, who performed musical passages with the saxophone, is also a member of the Pompeiana Music Band.
